dreamcast emulation

chankast is a fun dreamcast emulator. played some rez on it, need 2ghz+ , but newer version should be much faster. currently not developed, if only the source was released :(

grease them wheels

had an old CE or CR 4802TU (says TE on the driver) that wouldnt read any cds, so i updated firmware and stuff, to no avail… so i read some stuff on the web about troubleshooting cdroms and read that sometimes the rails where the lense is, gets stuck… lo and behold, after i opened up my cdr, the lens motor was very sticky to move.

mitsumi’s nice cdr opens very easily with just a regular phillips head screwdriver. i opened a sony cdrw that was murder, torque screws, opens from the bottom, folded over metal latch things… it was broke (one of the tray gears had melted),but i learned how easily the lens motor moved back and forth.

there was some dried grease on the rails that i chisled off with a small flat screwdriver. i read online that you need lithium grease to oil it, but at 2am, you take what you can get. i was planning on using heatsink grease, as it is heat resistant, but i could not find any. i ended up using 10in1 household oil applicated on with a qtip. seems to work ok now.

Newsworld International recently quit and turned into Current TV which is just pure crap.
NWI had a nice broadcast, and included many foriegn shows like DW’s European Journal. i really enjoyed a lot of the news they played. namely the reports from different countries on a whole wide range of things. you can check out the internet stream of thier stuff at cbc one day… (stupid cbc.ca site is still down, its been weeks now, no linky). NWI was a digital cable channel here.

i reccomend you check out DW’s english language shows availible for free every week at: http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,1595,4756,00.html (if not there, google for dw video on demand european journal)

i enjoy ‘Tomorrow Today’, a show about new inventions, discoveries and technology. ‘European Journal’, a news report from germany. and ‘Arts.21′ a show about arts and culture, all in english or german.

all three shows used to be on I-channel before they changed into AZNTV… (i-channel was on basic cable here, but when they moved to AZNTV, my cable provider changed them to digital cable…)
