Elimination of Air Pockets Using Centrifugal Force

Some of the sponge filled cartridges can develop air pockets at the bottom of the cartridge that can block the flow of ink. HP color cartridges and Epson Stylus Color cartridges are best known for this problem. A possible remedy is the use of centrifugal force.

Wrap the cartridge in a towel or cloth. Place the cloth wrapped cartridge in a plastic bag, (a plastic ‘grocery’ bag is good). Hold it in your hand with the head or exit ports pointing down. Extend your arm and swing the cartridge down towards the floor rapidly, as if you were going to throw it. Repeat several times, then remove the cloth wrapping. There should be a visible spot of ink from each of the chambers. If not, repeat this process..

anyone who has downloaded a bunch of files from the wayback machine knows, sometimes a zip file will not bt 100% downloaded. or if it does, then it is corrupted. luckily its a known bug and there is a simple solution!

another one of these external babies wont read any of my cds or dvds. well i opened her up and fiddled with the rails a bit, and bingo, it can read everything fine.

“todays alternative is really the mainstream”

thats the seemingly paradoxical mantra most often heard at record companies today. the alternative attitude is everywhere: david bowies filling arenas only by touring with nine inch nails; former tv child star alanis morissette has topped the charts by over-ingesting her liz phair albums; lou reed and paul westerberg pop up on the friends soundtra\ck album; now young producers have even gotten the likes of johnny cash and tom jones alternative airplay.

the question “alternative to what?” has plagued the deep thinkers of the industry for years and was a reliable tranqulizer at countless editions of the late, unlamented newmusic seminar. the current wave of breast-beating can probably be traced back to 1988, when rem left indie irs records to join the warner bros machine. three years later nirvana’s nevermind album topped the pop charts and legitimized alternative… seemingly forever.

and alternative remains a wide enough net and a lucrative enough bet for practically everyone to jumpwagon. this means that a truely alternative radio station would be proudly playing men at work, ted nugent, and colin blunstone. but that stuffs too alternative. better stick with the more normal alternatives.

like britpop outfits blur and oasis, whove been duking it out on the uk charts for the past year. oasis second lp whats the story morning glory, contiunues to refine its trex beatles influence. blur, meancwhile has put out its fourth album, the great escape, which has already sent the notoriusly fickle british media press into paroxyms of album of the year joy ( doubltless meaning that the group is in for one hell of a redrubbing within the next 12 months).

meanwhile, the rather hapless rca label is laying heavy odds on alternative. rca has unfairly been classified as a once in a decade hit maker (elvis in the 50s, jefferson airplane in the 60s , bowie in the 70s, eurythmics in the 80s and … uh … the dave mathhews band now i guess) , and has gone through a sucession of executives trying to mine pop hits . the new rca team under president bob jamison is now focusing on repeating th ematthews sucess. with such newer alternative acts as hum, babe the blue ox and from good homes.

mca , polygram, warner … they’re all furiously signing acts that can even looselely be considered alternative. sony , which operates the columbia and epic labels among others, is dropping major acts all over the place tduring the fourth quarter: mariah carey, cypress hill, celine dion, alice in chains, and a greatest-hits collection from michael bolton.

of course, few if any of those acts are alternaitve, but rest assured that sony is working that area hard. new spinoff labels work and 550 music while, broad-based, are each busily coming up with alternative rock acts, while their older siblings start laying the groundwork for the likes of oasis , korn, and rage against the machine.

meanwhile the hunger for out-of-the-ordinary has even extended to tv animation, that former wasteland of pen-and-ink sitcoms where frede and barney kept running around a ceaselessly-repeating background. while many cartoon series still rely on the same library music, the more outlandish outfits are seeking out more outlandish composeres, in a kind of throwback to the death-defying diverse approach of such classic cartoon composers as carl stalling and scott bradley.

duckmans executive producer gabor csupo was personal friends with frank zappa , that , added with dweezil zappas voiceover work on duckman, helped csupo gain access to frank’s condiderable vaults for some music cues. devo’s mark mothersbaugh, no stranger to odball scoring assainments (pee-wees playhouse), has brought his perspective to nickelodeons rugrats.

i installed vista on a pata drive while a sata drive was connected

now i removed the sata drive because its more useful to me on a diff box…

now vista wont start , bootmgr not found

well shit. booted to vista dvd, said it found an error in windows startup and would make a repair … well after reboot same error.

now i boot into dvd a second time and do startup repair again
now it tells me

quick googling reports some people have the message and a dead drive, and some people have the message and a working drive.

That may be a feature of my BIOS, I don’t know, but I thought it was part of
the S.M.A.R.T. technology. After I get the screen with that message I can’t
go on without pressing F1 to continue, or del to enter setup. BTW it’s been
about 6 months now since this started, and there have been no other
indications of HDD failure.

the “good” old days

i cant believe i’m actually giving praise to windows 98.
the operating system with the most BSOD’s.

i finally got a 2.5inch > 3.5inch laptop to regular ide adapter and plugged in an old laptop harddrive to see if it still worked/what was on it.

i put it into a p4 2.8ghz and booted it… to my amazement it chugged along fine and into a working windows enviroment. this would never work with win2k/xp because of the way they install themselves to a specific partition id in the boot.ini file.

when upgrading computers, even when the win2k boot.ini is the same position of ide0 master, it will bluescreen. it causes me much grief when i have to reinstall because of the different hardware causing windows conflicts/errors.

i know switching computers is rare. but damnit, its easy to just unplug the hd and stick it in a new box. its also annoying that windows (and other operating systems) come compressed and have to be slowly copied over and decompressed (and configured) instead of just copy (and checksum) and reboot. also annoying that the cdrom cant write a little flag on the harddrive , so it can reboot automatically, check for the flag, skip install from cd, boot to hd, finish installing… i cant imagine this would be all that hard to implement. why must i babysit the windows installation (yes i know about the floppy disk auto installer crap).

my next os will:
1. autodetect its hardware on every boot (if it detects a change!!)
2. be quick/easy to install

since clint liked my printer fix so much, i’ll post some more fixed up stuff.

i bought a lamp at target a few years ago, it was a total piece of crap. it fell apart twice, but i wasnt about to spend another $40 on another crappy “made in china” lamp. so i fixed it.

i think i watched entirely too much red green and macgyver as a kid…

canon pixma mp 470 printer scanner all in one

a friend gave me his printer after it stopped working.
every time you turned it on it would say paper output slot is jammed

i searched around and google said a few people had this error.

mostly people just had some junk stuck in the printer. but this printer had no such obstruction. after a lot of wrestling with it, taking out about two dozen screws, i found the sensor!

the “paper output slot” sensor is a small black piece of plastic that tells the printer when it has paper stuck in its rollers. it goes forward when there is no paper and it gets pushed back when there is paper present. the spring on the stick wasnt enough to push the stick in front of the sensor bars.

i cut some electrical tape and put it on the stick. so the tape enough to trip the sensor, but not enough to block the sensor when the paper was in it.

i tested a print or two, screwed everything back together and it works fine now.
a real pain in the ass to take apart however.

finally read the watchmen comic

moore is a decent storyteller but needs a serious editor or something. a bunch of the comic is spent between flashbacks to 1950’s heros and some lame newsstand comic. the guy working at the newsstand gets about the same time as our main characters ffs!

the middle of the comic spends way too much time being a bad soap opera. and the girl learns that she was the child of a rapist! oh noes! spoilers! what a waste of time.

at least the end was pretty good. as for the movie, i have some hope for it if they drop all of that lame ass flashback/comic parallel.

not sure if i’ll read anymore of moore’s comics. v for vendetta had a similar 1st act great, 2nd act shit, 3rd act explosion ftw style. the 2nd act is so bad i almost stopped reading both series.

daemon tools blue screen of death

installed daemon tools and restarted, gave me a nice bsod kernel lock…

safe mode also bsod on me. had to hit escape when it flashed for like 2 seconds. had to delete sptd.sys from c:\winnt\system32\drivers\ . didnt realize how full of ads daemon tools was getting. so many ads and so worthless. i will never use daemon tools again. back to alcohol 120%.
